New promo: Buy a Southwest flight, get future flight half off

Southwest Airlines is offering a unique buy-one, get-one-half-off deal.

If you register for the promotion and then book an eligible Southwest Airlines round-trip flight (or two one-way flights) by Aug. 3 for travel before Sept. 30, you’ll receive a 50% off promo code.

You can apply this promo code to any Southwest flight you book between Oct. 17 and Nov. 23 for travel from Jan. 8, 2024, to March 6, 2024, to enjoy 50% off savings on that 2024 flight (with a handful of blackout dates).

How to book: Log in to your Southwest account, click the “Register now” button, then buy a round-trip flight (or two one-way flights).

Travel dates: By Sept. 30, to get the promo code; between Jan. 8, 2024, and March 6, 2024, for travel using the promo code.

Book by: Aug. 3 to earn the promo code.

Blackout dates: Feb. 15-19, Feb. 23-25, March 3 (for travel using the promo code).

Since I’ve registered for the promotion and am booking before Aug. 3 and traveling before Sept. 30, I would receive a 50% off promo code on October 17, 2023, in the My Account of the Southwest website.

Then let’s say in mid-November, I decided I want to plan a 2024 trip to visit friends in Chicago. I could search for a flight from LAX to Chicago’s Midway International Airport (MDW) and enter the promo code once I’ve received it.

Since the dates fall within the eligible travel windows, the flight would be half off the base fare before taxes and fees. Not that the promotion is specifically not listed as valid on flights booked with Rapid Rewards points.
