Chase Ultimate Rewards points are some of the most valuable points you can earn. The Ultimate Rewards program offers great transfer partners that can unlock terrific value if you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, the Chase Sapphire Reserve® or the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card.

Before redeeming your Chase Ultimate Rewards points, you’ll want to understand when to transfer points to partners and how to seamlessly transfer points. In this guide, we’ll describe when and how you should transfer Chase points to the World of Hyatt program.

When should you transfer Chase points to Hyatt?

The World of Hyatt program is considered by many to be the single most lucrative transfer partner of the Chase Ultimate Rewards program. World of Hyatt is one of the few hotel loyalty programs that still uses an award chart. The World of Hyatt award chart offers off-peak, standard and peak pricing; it can offer excellent value whether you want to stay at a Park Hyatt hotel or a Hyatt Category 1 hotel.

Best of all, World of Hyatt members are exempt from destination, resort and facility fees when redeeming Hyatt points. However, compare cash and award prices for your stay to determine whether transferring Chase points to Hyatt makes sense. To simplify the process, let’s consider two questions you should ask yourself when redeeming Chase points for Hyatt stays:

• How many points would you need to book a standard room through Chase Travel℠?
• How many points would you need to book a standard room through the World of Hyatt program?

As we’ll discuss later in this guide, these two booking methods aren’t perfectly comparable, but let’s take a closer look at both options and how to compare which is better for your stay.

Search for hotels through Chase Travel

First, let’s discuss how to check award rates for hotels booked through the Chase portal. Log into your Chase account, click on your Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve or Ink Business Preferred, and then click “Redeem” next to your Ultimate Rewards balance.

Remember, you can combine your Chase Ultimate Rewards points into a single account, which may help if you have multiple cards that earn Ultimate Rewards points. Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders can redeem Ultimate Rewards points for 1.5 cents each when booking through Chase Travel, while Chase Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred cardholders can redeem points at 1.25 cents each.

Scroll down on the resulting page and click the link to “Book a hotel.”

This will take you to a page where you can enter the hotel details for your desired booking.

Filter the search results until you find the property and specific room type you want to book. Note the number of points you’d need to redeem for your stay; in this case, you could pay $149 or redeem 11,937 Chase points for a one-night stay. However, if you book through Chase Travel, you won’t get elite benefits or earnings through World of Hyatt.

Search for award rooms with World of Hyatt

Now, let’s see how many points we’d need to use if we book an award night directly through Hyatt. Go to the Hyatt website or app, enter the details of your stay and click “Search.”

Select the hotel you want to book and the room type and points rate you’re interested in. Click through to the final page before entering payment information to see the full award cost for multinight stays. Record the number of Hyatt points you’d need for your stay.

Calculate which option is better

Once you’ve gathered the costs through both methods, compare the rates to see which is lower. If booking directly through the Chase portal requires fewer points, you may not want to transfer Chase points to Hyatt.

In the above example for the Category 1 Hyatt Place Atlanta Airport-South, you could redeem 11,937 Chase points or 6,500 Hyatt points for a one-night stay Feb. 7. As such, you’d come out ahead by transferring Chase points to Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio and then redeeming Hyatt points for your stay.

However, whether to transfer Chase points to Hyatt often isn’t clear-cut. You can sometimes get lower member or discount rates if you book directly through Hyatt. And if you hold World of Hyatt elite status, you usually won’t get elite benefits or earn Hyatt points when you book through Chase Travel. Likewise, you don’t have to pay resort fees when you redeem World of Hyatt points for your stay.

However, Chase Sapphire Preferred cardholders enjoy a $50 hotel credit every account year for hotel stays booked via Chase Travel. This statement credit could offset the lack of points and elite perks on a low-cost Hyatt stay.

How to transfer Chase points to Hyatt

To transfer Chase points to Hyatt, log into your Chase account, select your Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve or Ink Business Preferred card account — since these are the three cards that let you transfer points to airline and hotel partners — and then click “Redeem” next to your Ultimate Rewards balance.

So far, this is the same process discussed above to redeem Chase points for a hotel booking through the Chase portal. However, to transfer Chase points to Hyatt, click “Travel” in the upper navigation bar and select “Transfer points to partners.”

Scroll down to the hotels’ section to see the Chase hotel transfer partners.

Click on Hyatt to reach an informational page about transferring Chase points to Hyatt. Click “Transfer Points” to move forward with the transfer process.

If you have an authorized user on your account, you must select which cardmember you wish to transfer Chase points. You can transfer points to your Hyatt account or the Hyatt account of one authorized user on your card account.

You’ll need to enter or confirm the World of Hyatt account number of the account to which you want to transfer Chase points.

Next, enter how many Chase points you want to transfer to Hyatt. Points transfer at a 1:1 ratio unless there’s an active transfer bonus.

Finally, confirm the number of Chase points you want to transfer and the Hyatt account to which you are transferring is correct. Click “Submit” to confirm your transfer. You can’t revert transfers, so be certain you want to transfer Chase points to Hyatt before clicking “Submit.”

The next screen should confirm that the transfer was successful. In our tests, transfers from Chase Ultimate Rewards to World of Hyatt are instantaneous, so you’ll likely see the points in your Hyatt account once you log out and back in.

Bottom line

The World of Hyatt program is a favorite of award travelers in part due to its reasonable redemption rates. Many TPG staffers have had incredible stays with Hyatt, and the program is one of the best Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer partners. However, knowing when and how to transfer Chase points to your Hyatt account is critical.
