After unveiling a series of new features last year aimed at simplifying group and family rides during its annual product showcase Go-Get, Uber is offering car seat rides in New York City and Los Angeles 10 months after teasing this additional option.
As of Tuesday, Uber Car Seat is available for riders to book in those two cities. When choosing this option, riders will be paired with a vehicle equipped with a Nuna Rava car seat that’s suitable for passengers weighing 5 to 65 pounds.
To celebrate the launch, customers can get $10 off two Uber Car Seat rides using the code “CARSEAT2024” at booking. New York City-based riders can also use the feature to get discounts at local play spaces Union Square Play and The Wonder when booking via the Uber app.
Rates for Uber Car Seat are the same as for UberX but with a $10 surcharge. Note that each car will only be equipped with one car seat per ride.
Car seat rides are the latest among the ride-hailing giant’s family-oriented activations previously announced in May 2023. Even so, riders were not able to request and reserve a ride with a car seat until now. An Uber spokesperson did not specify the reasons for the delay since last year’s pre-announcement when asked.
Other group travel features include teen accounts for rides and the Uber Eats option for food deliveries in select cities. For the latter, users can also collaborate with other users — such as roommates, families or friends — on a grocery order by selecting the Group Grocery Orders option.
